South Students’ Feelings For Fall

The first day of fall was Sept. 23. In the upcoming weeks, Kansas City weather will start to be cooler, the leaves will fall off the trees and seasonal activities like pumpkin patches and apple orchards will start opening.

Many students at South are excited for fall for a variety of reasons.

Every year, Ella Conklin, freshman, loves to go and visit her grandparents in Moberly, Mo. for Thanksgiving. Conklin said her earliest memory of fall is “hoppin’ around in some leaf piles” at her grandparents’ house.

Willem Van Asselt, sophomore, said his favorite fall activity is sitting at coffee shops and preparing for debate. Conklin’s favorite fall activity is going to Chiefs games, she said she enjoys this because she thinks it is funny to watch the other fans because of their serious expressions during the game.

There are some South students that have their complaints about fall, though.

Ava Johnson, freshman, said she likes fall, but she does admit that during fall it can be hard to pick out outfits for school.

“It will be really cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon,” Johnson said.

Pumpkin Pie is the favorite fall seasonal desert of Van Asselt and Johnson, but Ruby Livingston, freshman, said that pie is the worst part of the Fall season.

“It is so unnecessary,” Livingston said.

The last day of fall is Dec. 21, so regardless of the opinion toward the season, all South students have to live with it for the next three months.
