New And Improved South Assemblies
Walking into strobe lights, vibrant music and glow sticks was a big surprise to freshmen on the first day of school. The assemblies have been a hit this year with students at South.
“I think the assemblies have been much better this year. They are way more fun because everyone is actually showing spirit,” said Emma Clark, junior.
This year, South has already had two assemblies. At each assembly, many teams and bands perform the routines or songs they have been practicing all year.
“My favorite thing to watch at the assembly is the drumline. I liked when we got to walk through the line when we were dismissed from class before the assembly. My feet were literally shaking from the drums,” said Cassidy Taylor, senior.
The second assembly this year was for Homecoming. All the grades were dressed in their color to make organized bleacher sections. Students competed with each other in games, while teams performed for the school.
Students shared their opinions on the games played this year.
“I have not really enjoyed the games played at the assembly this year as much. I think more games like dodgeball could make it better,” said Garrett Anderson, senior.
This year, the spirit stick was introduced as a prize for the loudest grade. The senior class has now won the stick both times. This has caused major controversy among the students.
“I think the seniors deserved the spirit stick the first time, but I think the freshmen were even louder than them for the Homecoming Assembly,” said Clark.
STUCO is planning on having a fall or winter sports assembly sometime before the end of first semester.
