Your Go-To Party

Have you ever listened to the radio and your favorite song by your favorite artist is playing and you just start dancing like you are at a party?

Music has a big impact on our generation today, especially in South. With all the music programs and with daily listeners of different genres such as Rap, Country, etc. Students at South have contrasting opinions on which artist and song is the best.

“I prefer to listen to rap and pop, and tik tok songs,” said Reagan Kelley, freshman. “I only like a couple of artists so like Rini does RMB music and its really good, but it’s not my go-to music.”

As new artists and songs continue to come out, people are given more choices on who and what to listen to. Most South students want to check out theses new artists.

Zach Kramp, freshman, said he wants to try new artists such as Normani but he also wants to look into Classical music, too.

“I tried looking into classical music but like it’s kind puts you to sleep,” said Kramp.

Although new artists and songs have been put out, the majority of students at South like to listen to one genre: Rap. Many artists such as Post Malone and Tyler the Creator are the student’s favorites.

“I do share the same as a lot of people because Chance the rapper–he’s pretty good, a lot of people like them–21 Savage, Tyler the Creator, Khalid, the Jonas brothers,” said Reagan Kelley, freshman.

Lots of artists such as Shawn Mendes, Khalid and Tyler the Creator went on tour to many cities around the country including Kansas City. Many South students went to multiple concerts of their favorite artists.

“ I just saw Tyler the Creator concert and it was really fun,” said Sciler Grubb, freshman.

She continued to describe her experience at Tyler the Creator’s concert.

Many of the popular artists today are also disliked by students at South.

“ I hate k-pop because it’s annoying and the beat isn’t good. They’re cringy and they look like they’re from 2015. The songs just aren’t that good,” said Kelley.

While most students either love or hate K-Pop, a more popular genre is rap, but it still has students who aren’t fans.

Waylon Wright, freshman, a Rolling Stones fan said: “ Rap, it’s annoying because if autotune makes you good, anybody can do it.”

In spite of the fact, students in South may have different tastes in music and artists, they all have that one artist or song which can make them dance like they are at a party, no matter where they are. That’s why music is such a big influence at South and all over the world.
