Cheating In the Classroom
Do you know why no one plays cards with big cats? Because they always Cheetah.
In today’s modern society, cheating seems to be everywhere. People have cheated on tests, homework and school work all at the same time with little to no remorse. In the era of technology there are more and more accounts of this happening in more and more creative ways.
In a poll of 40 freshmen and sophomores at South, the majority admitted to cheating in the last four months. A total of 26 admitted to cheating while 14 students did not want to comment on it or said they did not cheat on anything. This poll was over tests and school work and not over homework.
However, among juniors and seniors, 19 admitted to cheating in the last four months and 21 said they did not. This contrasts with the ratio of students cheating in the lower class.
Daniel Henson, math, talked about different ways people seem to cheat in math and ways he counteracts it.
“People don’t seem to realize I can see under their desk,” Henson said.
Henson also discussed the ways he stops cheating in the classroom. Henson first separates the desk if it is an important exam. He also gives out different versions of the test so people can not copy off of each other.
No students wanted to outright admit to cheating. However, Brett Walker, junior, was okay with commenting on the subject. He talked about his distaste in cheating and said that he has not cheated in the past six months.
“It’s not that I hate people who cheat… I just think that is more short sighted and people should try to study,” Walker said.
Cheating has been getting more and more prevalent and creative with the rise of technology. Apple watches and laptop computers have been more and more prevalent in the classroom and so has cheating.
Cheating has become widespread in today’s society. With the rise in technology and more and more ways of cheating becoming available there is no telling how far it will go. Even if we remove all the technology from the classroom, there will still be students who cheat.
