Kick Out Classic
Saturday was jammed packed with fun-filled soccer games against South’s rivals, the Trojans. Every October, South hosts the annual Kick Out Cancer soccer match that celebrates the family and friends of the people we know who have or had cancer.
South’s C Team started off the games with a loss in penalties to their rivals. Shortly later, South’s JV Team played in another penalty shootout, which led to them ultimately losing to the Trojans.
But when the clock struck 12:30, cancer wasn’t the only thing being kicked out. South came out strong the second after the whistle was blown. Mudia Reuben, sophomore, made a dribble into the penalty box and drew a penalty kick for South. In the first few minutes, Jacob Garza, senior, drilled the ball into the right side of the net. 1-0 South.
As tensions were rising and foul after foul was occuring, Carson Owen, junior, rose above the Trojan defenders and headed the ball into the back of the net, doubling South’s lead. Minutes before halftime, Park Hill scored in an attempt to catch up with South.
But Reuben dribbled past the entire midfield and scored off of a breakaway with an easy finish to secure the win for the panthers. After that, everyone on the field knew who the superior team was.
The whistle blew, and the regular season had concluded for South. South came out with a victorious 3-1 win over their rival, Park Hill. South starts their postseason run tomorrow against Liberty North.
