2020 Start Time Change Needs to Change
Do you dread having to get up so early in the morning? All you want is to sleep for 10 more minutes.
You may or may not be in luck; next year, the start time will be 7:50 a.m., and to different people, this is either good or bad news.
To me, the new change is useless. The 20 minute time change won’t matter. If you sleep 20 minutes later, it still feels the same as if you were to wake up 20 minutes earlier.
We will be getting out of school around 2:53, which is almost 3:00!
The time change will only feel different at the end of school instead of the morning.
What will this bring for after school sports? Since most other school districts aren’t making this change students that have to go to a game or a meet that is right after school will have to miss almost the whole fourth block to get there on time. This might challenge athletes’ grades.
This time change has no specific reason. Simply just a change that the school thinks will benefit our students. Students and teachers will have 20 extra minutes to sleep.
The question most students are wondering is, will this really benefit me and be worth it?
What is causing the most controversy over the topic is that high schoolers start later than elementary school kids so, therefore, we will be home later. Many parents that work rely on their older kids to get the younger kids from the bus stop and watch them.
This complaint has been expressed by many students and parents, but the district has no sign of changing this decision anytime soon.
By the start of next year, the school needs to change the start time back to 7:30 a.m., because it’s best for our students and after school sports.
