Oh deer, it’s the most wonderful time of the year. So, turn that resting Grinch face upside down and try to be as jolly as Santa because that look soots you better.
There are many differences between how families celebrate the holidays over winter break. Christmas is the most popular holiday that goes over winter break and is celebrated the most at the South.
Some students travel throughout the US, and some stay at home in bed.
Emily Hill, freshman, said that she is going to Florida over the holidays with her entire family to celebrate Christmas. A special Christmas tradition that Hill celebrates it a game called “White Elephant” where very random gifts are bought for people in your family. She is buying a grown man’s stomach fanny pack for one of her family members.
Hill says, “I really wanna go because when I get a tan, people are gonna be like ‘did you get a spray tan?’ I will be drinking Pina Coladas instead of Hot Cocoa.”
However, Sarah Abdi, sophomore, does not celebrate Christmas, but still sincerely enjoys South’s Winter Break.
“I have a sister in law who has a Christian family, so she kind of does celebrate with them.” -Abdi
Abdi’s family does celebrate a holiday though.
“We celebrate Eid. You fast for a month called Ramadan, and then you have a big celebration in the summertime,” she said.
The holidays are very different for all kinds of people. “Of course I like Christmas break, I don’t have to go to school.” -Grant Dunaway
One thing almost everyone can agree on is that Winter Break is the second best part of the year, following Summer Break because it is a nice break from the stress that going to school provides.
Whether you’re more like the Grinch or Santa Claus, it’s time to get the holiday spirit lit up with your Christmas tree and hold on for deer life, because it’s going to be a cold Christmas.
