The Benefits of Bilingual
On the academic side of the school, the rooms are far from organized. Normally, you’ll find math classes upstairs and downstairs, or science classes to the left and right of the grand staircase.
But in the language department, all the classes are cohesively together, in what is called the B200s pod. Whether you’re a spanish, french, or german speaker you will find yourself in this hallway if taking a language class one way or another.
Many students wonder, why language? When they could be taking a blow off foods or fashion, but there are many beneficial skills that come out of a language class. Most universities in the area require at least two semesters of foreign language, and more looks good when trying to stand out. Language also can increase salaries. On average, language knowledge in America can increase your salary by 2%.
Language can also set you apart from the rest of your class or a group of people. It makes you diverse and teaches you to learn in a different way. Listening, speaking, and reading another language are all vital skills that are important when living and working in the real world.
Not to mention, locally this school has a great foundation of teachers; from Señora Roth, Jackson, Wittry, and Holland. The past two years, there has been a considerable amount of movement of spanish teachers in and out of the building, but hopefully these ones are here to stay. “There have been a lot of spanish teachers in and out of the building within the past few years,” said Señora Roth. She is teaching AP Spanish for the first time this semester because so many of the newer spanish teachers are teaching the more beginner spanish classes.
Communication is key, and with a second language under your belt you can be ensured to be successful!
