Spring Fever

As the COVID-19 virus continues spreading throughout various countries, Italy appears to be second worst hit. With over 10,000 cases and 631 deaths, Italy prepares for a massive lockdown. The magnitude of their situation has led schools to question if students visiting Italy over spring break is a good idea.

The Park Hill school district has decided that if students are planning to travel to Italy, they will be asked to stay home from school for 14 calendar days. Given these circumstances, students have cancelled their trips.

Lennon MacNaughton, junior, who originally was going to Italy with his family, has cancelled their vacation due to the heavy COVID-19 exposure.

“I’m bummed by not being able to go, because I was looking forward to visiting another country.” he says. “I think it’s worth it to cancel the trip though. I wouldn’t take the risk of going because Italy has it really bad.”

Though not all countries are as badly infected as Italy, most students have cancelled their trips, in order to be extra cautious. Marteen Redman, junior, and her family willingly cancelled their trip to North Carolina for safety purposes.

“It’s better safe than sorry. I don’t want to be quarantined for two weeks because of an outbreak,” she said.
