Summer 2020 Isn’t Cancelled

During the tough times of COVID-19, it’s hard to believe that things will go back to normal. Trust me, sometimes I feel like this mess will never go away, and we will be locked up forever when that is simply not the case. In fact, select things will be opening back up in May, and cases of COVID-19 have been lowering across the United States. This means that summer 2020 will be back in play. Here are some things to look forward to.

We will have a summer. Sure, it may look a little bit different from how it’s been in the past, but we will still be able to do all things “summer”! Going to the park, hanging with friends, late-night drives blaring music… all these good things will be coming back. Plus, summertime means warmer weather, which always leads to feeling better. With the sun beating down, your blues will wash away. Keep the positive mindset, and remember things will be turning around before you know it.

One thing that I am looking forward to this summer is the different movies coming out. I love going to the movies, and we will soon be able to watch movies in a big theater again. The fact that so many new movies are coming out makes me even more excited! The new releases over the summer come with a huge range of genres, from action to comedy to drama and everything in between.

The movie I’m most excited about that is coming out this summer is The French Dispatch, coming out on July 24th. It’s about a European publication that publishes a memorial edition highlighting the three best stories from the last decade, which are about an artist sentenced to life imprisonment, student riots, and a kidnapping resolved by a chef. The film is full of celebrities like Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, Saoirse Ronan, and most importantly…Timothée Chalamet. Oh baby, that is one beautiful man; if he doesn’t swing you out of your quarantine blues I don’t know what will. Other movies coming out include Black Widow, Wonder Woman 1984, Soul, Top Gun Maverick, and Jungle Cruise.

Another thing to look forward to that is something we’re not too used to is having prom and graduation in the summer. As someone who is a part of the 2020 senior class, this all feels a little weird and the year hasn’t finished like any of us thought it would. It definitely blows that we don’t get to go back to school for prom and graduation, but the fact that South has rescheduled it all is really awesome for the senior class. Now when everyone is all tan during the summer, everyone will be looking killer in their tuxes and dresses. And on the bright side, jumping around from grad party to grad party is super fun, and we now get to do that all summer long.

Although everyone is feeling a little low during these hard times, remember to keep your head up, stay positive, and remember summer 2020 will be the best yet.
