Return of the FMP
Every year a new group of Freshmen come into South. For some kids, the transition from middle school to high school can be tough. Luckily there is a club here at PHS to help them out, called the Freshman Mentor Program.
A group of Seniors and Juniors are hand picked to be a guide for these new students. They help them learn where the hallways are, the teachers, what classes to take, you name it.
Pre COVID they were able to do all sorts of activities with the kids like scavenger hunts, food days, and even team bonding. “We aren’t allowed to intermix as much as a group this year which has been hard” Abby Wells, senior, said.
Power points are an FMP’s best friend when it comes to trying to keep the kids engaged in the lessons. Because all of the changes of school they have had to redo everything. “The presentations we usually use for the past years we couldn’t recycle so we had to make a lot of new power points while also trying to reiterate this isn’t what school always looks like”.
Even though the club may look a little different this year, they are working their hardest to help these students understand their school and most importantly have fun while doing it.
