On the Mat with Maddie
After winning the state championship her freshman year, Maddie Kubicki, sophomore, is ready for the season this year. The girls wrestling team is fairly new at South and has had to make some changes due to some restrictions. However, this is not going to stop Kubicki.
Kubicki has been wrestling for 12 years and is always working hard when she is on the mat. She doesn’t only wrestle because she loves the sport, it helps her in other aspects of her life as well.
“I wrestle so I can learn and grow more as a wrestler and as a person.” Kubicki said.
With positive rates still increasing, it is hard to know if she will have an entire season. She has still been training during her off season to prepare for another amazing year.
“I’m still preparing for the meets we’ll have in the future by going to practice every day, while still taking some recovery time.” Kubicki said.
Kubicki hopes that she will still have a postseason this year, so she can continue to keep practicing. There have already been some things getting canceled during preseason for the wrestling team this year, and they have had to split up practices into separate groups.
“All I know is no matter what, I’m going to find a way to practice and get better. I’m just hoping we will have a postseason.” Kubicki said.
