The Final Countdown
The season is cranking down with Varsity conference this weekend (February 5th), and JV conference already concluded. South’s swim team finishes the season undefeated as they go into there last week. As of now, 6 girls are going to move on to State that will take place on February 19th. For all, it has been a weird season due to the COVID pandemic, and the team is just glad they were able to have a season and make it through without getting shut down.
As far as the JV conference went last weekend, the team finished first-team all conference. They won with 506 points with the second place team being Platte Country with only 471 points. With the team scoring so high, South also had some JV conference champions! Ayla Ringo placed 1st in the 100 backstroke, followed by another South Swimmer, Abby Fox who got 2nd. Ringo also won a gold medal in the 200 freestyle. Another 1st place dub in the 500 freestyle goes out to Grace Crigger. On top of that, Riley Propes placed 1st in the 100 freestyle and 1st in the 50 freestyle. Way to go JV Conference, South is proud of you all!
Next, this Friday is varsity conference with the varsity team hoping to catch a win for the Red Division. The meet takes place at the Gladstone Community Center having the preliminary round at 5pm on February 5th, with the top 16 places returning back Saturday for the finals round. The girls have been working hard, and we can’t wait to see what they can do!
Finally, the team of 6 (and subject to more) are headed off to St. Charles to swim at the 2021 State Meet Championships. Normally, this meet is preliminary and finals, similar to the conference meet, but because of COVID it is just timed finals. With that being said, due to COVID, state was a lot harder to qualify for this year considering our State team is a lot smaller than usual! We look forward to seeing the team’s successes as they finish out their last couple of weeks in the season!
