New Principal
South is welcoming a new principal this year, Dr. Kerrie Herren, and most students are excited for this change.
“I think it’s a really good decision and he’s done great things for the school,” Caleb Hicks, senior, said.
Herren has been serving as interim principal since Dr. Dale Longenecker’s retirement. One of the biggest things students have noticed is Herren’s presence and involvement around the school.
“His heart is in the right place and he really puts the time in to connect with the students at South and make them feel welcome.” junior Sara Montalbano said.
Other students also agree, saying they’ve seen him around much more.
“I think he’s a lot more involved than Dr. Longenecker,” Katie Claunch, junior, said.
Hopefully this will benefit the student body and school atmosphere in the long-term as well. Many students look forward to growth and change for the future.
“I think he finds a way to say yes when others say no. He has really learned and grown from his mistakes and I think the student body should have some grace,” Montalbano said.
The future for South and its new principal looks bright, and students share enthusiasm for what is to come.
