Like father like son
Every parent wants their kid to do the best they can, but when you have your parent as a coach it adds a whole new level of pressure.
Jake Farmer is a freshman this year at south and he is also on the boys soccer team. Jake has played soccer most of his life and has had the experience of having his dad as his coach.
Coach Farmer is a teacher at south and the boys head coach for soccer. Therefore he is Jake’s soccer coach.
“I always have to stay after and be on clean up after practices which isn’t fun,” Jake said.
Jake said that having his dad as a coach is kind of good because he knows him as a player and his strengths. With your dad being your coach, it comes having it a little harder. Jake mentioned how there is sometimes more pressure on him, but he said his dad always has the best after game advice.
The JV team is mostly freshmen with a few sophomore which makes it hard playing older kids.
Jake said, “The older boys are like brothers and usually seniors and juniors want nothing to do with freshmen but that isn’t the case with them.”
The boys have a home game Wednesday, the 29th against North Kansas City. JV plays at 5 and varsity will play after at 6:30.
