Softballs Last Game of The Season

After a long season of up and downs, the South Softball team fell short in their district game against St. Joseph Central. The team went out with a bang and fought very hard.

The game started off with many great starts. Senior, Annabelle Winter, shocked the crowd and her team with a jumping catch at third to start the game off. She soared into the air making the best catch of the game.

“I was so glad I was able to hype my team-up that first inning and start off strong,” Winter said.

Mid-game St. Jo was able to score a run by stringing together a couple of hits. Although South hadn’t made errors, St. Jo was able to find the gaps that South just couldn’t cover.

“Defensively our game went really well. All the girls made the plans they could. We just fell short on offense,” said Senior, Gabbie Shultz.

South worked hard at the plate but nothing seemed to work out for them. They were making contact with the ball, but it was never able to find the gaps. Stringing hits together had been a major struggle for the team all year. In the 7 inning game, South was able to score one run.

“Scoring Cara Sparks in was very exciting. The dugout went crazy and we knew we were still in the game,” said Winter.

The score was tied for a couple of innings. Each team was having a struggle getting base runners on. In the 6th inning, St. Jo hit a home run off of South. The girls each felt their hearts sink.

“I was very nervous when St. Jo hit that home run, but I still had faith in our team and knew we had one more inning,” Shultz said.

In the seventh inning, the Panthers were up to bat. This was their last chance to come back and win or tie the game. Sadly, the girls fell short after a great season.

“I have loved every second of this team and being a part of such a great environment. Everyone made me feel welcomed and loved,” Winter said.
