A Quick Start
So far, the aspirations for the athletes of boys cross-country here at South have been met and exceeded.
“I’ve felt very confident about this season, in myself and in the team. Individually, I have ran well at every race so far and if everything works right the team should be a state qualifying team” Quention Worley, senior, said.
Following a third place finish at the first meet, the Tim Nixon Invitational, second at the Ray-Pec Invitational, 10th at Gans Creek, and fourth at KC Metro, Worley won first place at Conference.
Coach Christopher Leibrand also gave light to the top racers’ performance so far.
“I’d love to see our top three boys make it to State individually. I think that they can do that.” Leibrand said.
He added that the team also has the opportunity to get to State as a team, and that “they have the talent to do it, it would just have to all be there at once.”
Based on the season’s success to this point, the prospect of State is the foremost goal of several members. Some even go beyond that.
“Now that the season has gone the way it has I think I want to win the District title individually and place top ten at State, too.” Worley said.
But these ambitions aren’t a guarantee, and there is still plenty more work to do.
Coach Leibrand finished with a message to to the group, that “we have some work to go and we need to look at the team as a whole.”
If the work is put in and those targets our met, it will be a great story for the boys cross-country team.
