Something I see people complain often about is not having any new music to listen to, always looking for something fresh, something different than they’ve had on repeat for the past three weeks. That’s where I come in. Since the beginning of 2020 just five weeks ago, there’s been an abundance of new, quality tunes to listen to that you might not know about.

Gorrilaz – Song Machine: Underground turned mainstream virtual-band Gorillaz has a new experimental project coming to listeners in 2020. The concept behind “Song Machine” flips the classic album on its head; instead of a single cumulative release, Gorillaz plan to release single after single in small burst across the year all culminating in a time-expansive experience. The first of these tracks came in the form of “Momentary Bliss” boasting features from British slum-rapper Slowthai and prog-punk band Slaves. If this song is any indication of the quality coming out of “Song Machine,” then we’re in for a treat this year.

Denzel Curry – UNLOCKED: Arguably the most underrated rapper in the game currently, Denzel Curry is back for his third consecutive year with yet another incredibly hard-hitting and fully immersive album in “UNLOCKED.” Coming together with up-and-coming producer Kenny Beats, the pair put together a bombastic and chaotic EP that shakes up the idea of genre entirely. While shorter than most of Curry’s other projects, there’s nothing left to be desired on “UNLOCKED” as every moment on the tracklist hits harder than the last, with a special highlight on track 5, “DIET_,” as perhaps one of the best songs to come out of his discography. If you want to listen to some experimental bangers, be sure to check this out.

Joji – Run: George Miller, former youtube meme turned lo-fi R&B artist, has been making a name for himself over the past half-decade in the music scene. From the inception of Joji, the moniker that Miller takes under his releases, there has been a steady increase in vocal quality and production quality and this progress is exemplified completely in his newest release “Run.” Combining airy instrumentals and a powerful progressive melody, along with the most impressive vocals we’ve heard from Joji yet, makes for a powerful start to the year, and hopefully, more to come.
