Book Review – The Book Thief

Liesel Meminger is a young girl in the late 1930s who loves reading anything she can get her hands on, listening to her Papa play his accordion, and going on adventures with her best friend, Rudy. However, considering she lives in the heart of Nazi Germany, it’s an unfortunate time to be hiding a secret as big as the one she has living in her basement.

Told from the perspective of an unusual character, Death, Marcus Zusak’s The Book Thief is a tremendous work of historical fiction, with coming of age, romance, and comedic hints mixed throughout. It is the tale of a girl who finds friendship in unlikely places, faces internal conflict, and ultimately grows up too fast.

The Book Thief is a great recommendation for anyone interested in drama, love, history, and the overall human experiences of life and death. It appeals to both the young and old with its variety of characters, and it deals with adult topics and events and a child’s reaction to them.

This book, with its stunning descriptions, hilarious characters, and great plot, will keep you entertained all the way through and make you wish there was more when you turn the last page. The Book Thief is an excellent book for everyone to read and will make you fall in love with the story.
