Boys Varsity Soccer Wins Against Conference Rival on Senior Night

Big smiles radiated from seniors and parents as they walked down the center of the soccer field, celebrating their final year as South soccer players. It can be a time of happiness, but also a time of sadness.

This year, senior night was held on October 21.

Dawson Evans, senior, said that it was sad because it’s his last year playing soccer for South, but he had a great time and appreciates the friendships he’s made.

When you’re playing a sport at South you can make lots of friendships and become close with the coaches.

“I made a lot of strong bonds with the people on the team,” Evans said.

Cade Meek, senior, agreed with Evans. Cody Chatham, senior, said otherwise.

“I have mixed feelings, but I’m getting ready for the next step,” Chatham said.

However, he said that he would miss the people and coaches on the team. Chatham said that he would miss messing around with his teammates under the bleachers.

On Senior Night, South soccer went up against their conference rival, Liberty. South came back and won 2-1 against Liberty. In a previous game, Liberty had beat south 3-0.

“Huge win for us and a big confidence booster,” Chatham said.

Evans said that it was “really hype” to win and that it was nice to have support from all the fans. He even thanked the fans who came and supported.

“Big confidence booster, especially with districts around the corner,” Meek said.

At South, it’s a big deal when a sports team beats their conference rival and especially on senior night.

“It meant a little more since it was senior night,” Chatham said.

Although the team already had senior night, they still have two games left. Evans said that it was “weird and dumb” to have senior night when they have two games left. Chatham and Meek had different thoughts.

“I don’t think it’s weird. Liberty is our conference rival so why not have senior night for a big game,” Chatham said.

Meek said that it wasn’t weird at all to have senior night when they did.

“It makes sense that they would have it toward the end of the session,” Meek said.

High school goes by fast and Senior Night is one of the nights that holds a special place in everyone’s heart. From making strong bonds with the team to beating a rival, Senior night was a night to remember.
