C200’s Thoughts on Mac
Newspaper staff gives their opinion on Mac Miller’s new album Circles.
On January 17th, 2020, Mac Miller’s family and record label released his new album “Circles” that was in the works before his passing in 2018, but was finished by Jon Brion based on how Miller would have wanted it. Fans were ecstatic to see a final album from Mac after his death, but what did the students of C200 think of the album?
“I haven’t even listened to it yet,” said staff member Parker Rivers, junior. When I asked why, he responded with saying it was because he was a “horrible person”. This album has been all the hype in the halls of Park Hill South, causing anyone and everyone wanting to listen to the album, even those who don’t consider themselves Mac fans.
“I never got super into his music but I respect the guy a lot,” said staff member Olivia Stone, senior, “Releasing music after you pass away is always really cool when an artist does it and I think it’s a great way to remember an artists legacy with one final album, and I respect it.”
I agree with Olivia 100%; I like some of Mac Miller’s music but I have never been an avid listener to his music. But when he passed away, it made me realize the legacy he left behind not just in the music industry, but for the world. When I saw he released an album even after his death, I was in awe. I know many artists have released music from the grave like Michael Jackson and Johnny Cash, but I feel like this is the first big artist of our generation to do so, making it feel very surreal.
“Circles is hands down the best posthumous album of the 21st century,” said staff member Grant Mulligan, junior, who fell in love with the album.
Mulligan has always been a fan of Mac Miller and was crushed by his death, so getting an album one last time from Mac gave him clarity.
“On an all-around basis, there truly isn’t a bad song on the album. It is the perfect length with a variety of vibes to put you in all sorts of different moods.”
The overall review for Circles from the staff of C200 gives the album five out of five stars; whether it’s because we love every track on it, or it’s because we respect Mac, C200 is a big fan of the album.
“It made me realize that this would be the last I would ever hear of him,” said Mulligan, “His label had Mac’s vision in mind and handled it in a way Mac would have wanted for his fans.”
