Dawn FM

After the release of the hit album “After Hours” in early 2020, The Weeknd quickly gained more fans. This led many all over the world to increase their expectations of his music. The album was nominated for many awards such as Billboard Music Award for Top R&B Album, American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B Album, Juno Award for Album of the Year, and many more. 

On January 7, 2022, The Weeknd released his new album called “Dawn FM”. This Album shocked many fans since it wasn’t his usual sound. “Dawn FM” is a retro-pop radio station. The Weeknd wanted to emphasize how he felt the afterlife would be and what it’s like to be stuck in purgatory. The main feature of this album is Jim Carey, who plays the narrator or radio host of the album. 

This was by far the most ambitious work to come from The Weeknd and it received a lot of attention due to the credibility he has built. Many thought that it lacked the spark “After Hours” had. Alexis Devore, Junior said “I enjoyed it, however, it lacked the excitement “After Hours brought. I wish he kept the dark elements with light music combo.” 

The most popular song on the album is “Sacrifice” and it comes with a music video that has over 19 million views. My personal favorite, however, is “Is There Someone Else”. The song has a catchy almost disco-like beat that gets you grooving even though the lyrics are somber.

At the crack of dawn, I will be tunning into the FM and jamming out to this new album.
