Donate to Save a Life

The semi annual blood drive at Park Hill South is just around the corner. On Friday, Nov. 1 in the small gym, students will go to the gym to donate blood to the community. This year, STUCO is keeping with that tradition but also incorporating some new changes.

The blood drive is being administered by Community Blood Center (CBC) this semester. As opposed to Red Cross, blood donated through CBC will be donated directly to someone in the Kansas City area.

The procedure remains the same, and STUCO is playing the same role they have in previous years.

“We’re in charge of signing people up, getting out permission slips, getting people to the nurse. We basically run the whole thing,” Skyelar Nelson, junior, said.

Sophomore Riley Parman and Junior Coleman Reese are in charge of the drive this semester.

“One thing we want to do differently is advertise more to the community, as in Riverside. We feel like we don’t get enough people from there,” Coleman Reese, junior, said.

Not only is STUCO trying to draw in more outside donors, but in an attempt to draw more student volunteers to the drive this year, STUCO is also giving out T-shirts to anyone who registers to donate blood. The shirts are in line with this year’s theme: The Office.

Those who choose to donate blood can expect the same perks as years past. In fact, STUCO is planning to expand their arsenal of food, so students have more options.

“We call a ton of local businesses to get food donations so that students, after they give blood, have something to eat or drink,” Landon Berry, sophomore, said.

This semester’s blood drive is set to run smoothly as ever, and STUCO hopes the changes will draw more donors. Students can register at lunch in the days before the drive.
