Out with the Old, In with the New

South’s Boys Swim Team begins a new season with some old faces left behind and some new faces with a fresh start. Each year, Coach Busenhart and the team adapt to a new environment, hoping to make each year better than the last.

“I think the team looks pretty good so far. Busenhart thinks we can win state, so definitely placing better than last year. As a team we are different in spirit, but not so much skillswise,” Luke Brown, sophomore, said.

Although they lost seniors last year, a new face has seemed to catch everyone’s eyes. Moving to Kansas City from one hour outside Miami, Ethan Roach, junior, is new to South and the swim team. Roach has been swimming since he was 8 years old, and primarily swims the 100 backstroke and the 200 individual medley. Roach is an important factor in South’s success so far this season.

“The best part about the PHS swim team has been seeing how strong we are and how much potential we have. My last team was very bad, so it’s exciting to be on a team like this one,” Roach said.

South’s swim team has a lot of new adaptations to make this year. These changes seem to be making the team better as a whole. With the state swim meet coming up in November, we wish the boys the best of luck in the rest of their season!
