Powerful Panthers
After going through a historic 5-0 district record, hard-fought comebacks, and prolific highlights from upcoming underclassmen. South’s football hot streak isn’t ending, it is only beginning. The devastating loss to Staley didn’t sit well with our wonderful senior core, but it is pushing the younger classes to step up and fill the big holes they are leaving in South’s program.
9-14 marks a tragic loss to Staley, a team that South previously beat this season, and had high hopes for in the coming weeks. COVID did play a significant role in the finale loss, with many players being concerned they wouldn’t be able to play, along with coaches unknowing if they could be on the sidelines. Unfortunately, the tables turned towards Staley, and a last game-winning drive wasn’t enough for the Panthers to come up with a win.
South will be missing the names and faces of the likes of Braden Bartosh, Eric Avery, Andrew Horton, and RJ Mitchell just to name a few. The boys put their blood, sweat, and tears into this season and it showed. All of South should be proud of the work they accomplished this year, and wish them nothing but the best wherever their careers take them.
The season wasn’t what fans, players, and coaches were expecting. With little to no fans in the crowd, the atmosphere of “Friday Night Lights” was far different from the previous seasons. With a young core and a lot of the key players, this season’s starters, being sophomores and juniors. Coach Alan Wilmes will have a lot of pieces to work on completing the puzzle of next season.
