Qualifying for Districts
Shea Worley is one of the seven athletes on the girls Varsity Cross Country team at South. Worley and the rest of the varsity team have been training hard and fast for months now in the hopes of doing the best that they possibly can at Districts.
“We have been trying to train the same way we always do,” said Worley, “continuing to work hard and push ourselves.”
Worley said she comes from a family of runners and has been running since she was seven years old. She didn’t start running in school, however, until last lear.
Worley’s current time is 21:45 for the 5K, which is what varsity will be running on Oct. 26.
Kimberly Lepe is a freshman on JV that practices with Worley multiple times a week.
Lepe said, “Shea always meets everyone at the finish line with encouraging words.”
This is found helpful by the other cross country runners, such as Lepe, because it helps them keep going and have a positive attitude.
“Shea is always saying nice things to me outside of school, too,” said Lepe. “She will always say ‘hello, beautiful’ when I first see her and is always so positive.”
Worley said she is excited to run as a team again and also loves the location of the course.
She hopes to do her best at Districts this weekend and as soon as she is done, she intends to go back to training.
“I want to train harder and faster so that I can continue to improve,” she said, “and do even better next year.”
