Sticking to New Years Resolutions

January 1 is right around the corner, which means it’s the start of a brand new year.

New Year’s is the time for celebration and reminiscing on the past 365 days of your life, but also your plans for the next upcoming year. New Year’s resolutions are a tradition for many people here at South so a lot of people are doing them. A lot of people make resolutions, but how many people keep them?

“I try to keep my resolutions, but I always end up with the same habits.” said Gracie Painter, Sophomore.

Painter and many other students struggle to keep their resolutions, which is why it’s good to find techniques that help you sticking with them.

One way you can stick to your resolutions is by writing them down. Writing things down helps you remember them better so it will be fresher in your memory. Next time you reach for a cookie maybe writing it down will help you remember that it’s against your resolution to eat healthier.

“I write my resolutions down to help me.” said Elano Alvarez, Sophomore, who said he usually keeps his resolutions.

It is proven that writing things down makes them more likely to manifest.

Also, you can stick to your resolutions is by making them with your friends. Doing things in a group can help you as well because your friends can persuade you to do better. They can have a bigger impact on your decisions since you are around them the most.

“My friends and I all do similar resolutions,” said Lucas Crane.

Another way is by making reminders in your phone. Most students are on their phones for the majority of the day so setting a reminder on your phone can help you remember to stick to it (unless your resolution is to be on your phone less, which then you may not want to use this method.)

Overall, these methods can be key factors in keeping your resolutions. This upcoming January 1st, maybe you could use one of these tips to help you keep yours through 2020.
