Swimming to State
The girls swim team is gearing up for state and conference these upcoming weeks, hoping to bring home some wins to South. State is a week later than usual this year, and they are spending their precious time in the water, trying to trim some seconds off their strokes.
Compared to previous years, this year’s team is young, with a lot of underclassmen being forced to take over leadership roles. Emma Clark, junior, is one swimmer who is doing her best to help better the team.
“What is different this year, is we usually have one or two really good seniors who play a big part in leadership on the team. This year, we just have a lot of good swimmers without one of those standout swimmers.” Clark said.
With state coming up in two weeks, swimmers are trying to get their times to par. If a specific time is reached on a stroke, you get an automatic spot in state. Otherwise, there are 32 spots that need to be filled by the next best times.
Let’s wish these swimmers the best of luck heading into these upcoming weeks.
