Swim’s State-Run

A few weeks before South’s State swim meet, the team faced a big challenge that set them back in their preparation. “Almost ⅔ of our team was quarantined until two days before the State meet,” said Alec Enyeart, a junior on the varsity team. This meant that a majority of the team was unable to practice and prepare for their last, and arguably most significant, swim meet of this year. Although many on the team were skeptical of their performance due to this quarantine, 13 guys geared up for State and headed to compete.

The boy’s spirits quickly rose as they started to swim some impressive times. Many of the swimmers beat South records, and eventually overcame 50 points as seeded to place 2nd overall at State. “We were all super proud. We wanted to beat Lee’s Summit West and prove we were the better team and we were able to barely beat them by five points, while also beating many South records,” said Enyeart.

South overcame much adversity to pull out this impressive State-run and everyone is very proud of their achievements this year.
