The Battle to the End

Coming off a big win against Liberty at their first game of Districts, South’s volleyball team had high expectations for the district championships against Liberty North. “We were just hoping to play our best and to put up a good fight. Liberty North is #1 in the state, so we knew it would be a tough game,” said Keegan Good, junior and starting libero for South’s Varsity team.

Although the girls came with their game faces on, Liberty North’s volleyball team came to the court with the same intensity. After the first two sets, Liberty North had the lead. “We couldn’t find a way to get kills out of serve receive so we had to keep playing defense against one of the best outside hitters in the city,” said Good. She also mentioned that the calls made were fairly questionable, making it hard to keep mental and physical focus.

Although South battled fiercely to the end of the third set, they fell short a few points, resulting in the end to their incredible season. Emma Gillespie, a spectator of the game, commented on the game saying “The girls worked really hard overall and played together as a team. It was a great game to watch because every set came neck and neck! They should be proud of how they played and happy with how they finished the season!”

This year’s seniors, Arley Anderson, Abbie Day, Avery Dodd, and Hannah Cowan, will be dearly missed, but South’s returning players are excited to get back out on the court with their teammates again!
