Tik Tok is Taking Over

Tik Tok: the app that has teens glued to their phones, watching 15-second videos for hours. According to Oberlo.com, over 1 billion videos are viewed on this app every single day from a variety of viewers.

The way Tik Tok works is that anyone can post a video up to one minute long by adding music, text and/or other effects. This app is mainly used for comedic reasons. However, it can also help spread news, give advice and inform viewers.

Senior, Brylie Goff, says she gets on Tik Tok every day and usually multiple times a day.

“I use it because I know it will always be able to make me laugh,”she said.

On Tik Tok people also have the ability to “go famous.” You can do this by getting a high number of views and likes from other viewers.

“Going Tik Tok famous is kinda like a dream of mine,” said freshman, Ava Holmes.

One down fall of Tik Tok is how distracting it can be. Since people are on the app so much, some have trouble putting their phone down.

“At night, before bed, I will get on the app expecting just to be on it for like 10 mintues, but it usually leads to me being on it for around an hour, making me going to bed late and then I’m tired the next day,” says Goff.

Freshman, Katie Salerno, also says Tik Tok can also be dangerous at times.

“One time I was trying this thing with my friend where I spin her around while holding on to her,” she said. “We did this because someone else did it, and it went famous so we wanted to try, but it ended with her falling and then I fell on her. Everyone was okay, but we could have easily gotten hurt.”

As you can see it is very obvious that Tik Tok has many pros as long with many cons. However with the 1 billion videos watched everyday it keeps teens occupied and away from harmful things.
