TV Show Review: One of Us Is Lying
One of Us Is Lying was released on Peacock in early October. The show is based on a book by the author Karen M. McManus.
Our main characters are the star baseball player Cooper Clay (Chibuikem Uche), good-girl-meets-genius Bronwyn Rojas (Marianly Tejeda), bad boy Nate Macauley (Cooper Van Grootel), and miss popular Addy Prentiss (Annalisa Cochrane). These characters are the only people present when Simon Kelleher (Mark McKenna) dies from an unusual and suspicious allergic reaction in detention. Throughout the series, the “Bayview Four” work to clear their names, having to overcome the multitude of evidence stacked against them. The whole school hated Simon for his gossip website, his most recent post before he dies featuring none other than our four main characters. The four students explore possible theories as to how Simon died and who at the school was capable of murder. During their investigation, they cause chaos (Scooby-Doo style) and have to share their deepest secrets with each other to stay out of trouble.
I rate this tv-show 8.5/10 for many reasons. It gives Riverdale, season 1 vibes, but was executed in a less corny way. The plot turns in the show are unexpected (unless, of course, you’ve read the book) and the characters are very well developed. You root for certain characters one episode then believe, without a doubt, the they are the murderer the next. The reason this show isn’t a 10/10 is because it wraps up really quickly. During the last episode, its hard to believe that the show could find a conclusion in such a small amount of time. Within the final minutes, the show features a time jump, then closes with an abrupt cliff hanger. This being said, I do highly recommend One of Us Is Lying, and I believe it is worth the 8 hours it takes to watch the first season.
