Where’s Winter

Everyone who lives in Missouri knows the weather is a rollercoaster and unpredictable.  It can be warm and sunny one minute and stormy the next. This December we are experiencing high temperatures of up to 73 degrees.

What kid doesn’t love to wake up on Christmas morning to see everything covered and white fluffy snow. Although meteorologists predict by the time Christmas arrives temperatures will be normal, at this rate it doesn’t seem like a white Christmas is in store.

Climate change is a conversation that carries different opinions and calls of action.  The weather being this high seems to prove that climate change is in action. Abnormally warm weather is being experienced in 48 states this winter and everyone is wondering where the snow is.

In Kansas City this week, the weather is predicted to stay above 40 degrees with most days being 60s. This unusual warmth can be caused by a few different effects. “The effects of human-induced climate change are also playing a role, tipping the scales toward warmth. In the absence of human influence, heat extremes and cold extremes would remain roughly balanced,”(The Washington Post)

Whether you are glad you haven’t had to wear gloves and winter jackets yet or are desperate for a sledding day everyone is wondering, where’s winter?
