Zombieland 2: Double Tap
It’s that time of the year again. The fall always brings in a variety of new movies down at the movie theatres, one of those is Zombieland 2: Double Tap. The long awaited sequel has finally hit screens 10 years after the events that happened in the 2009 cult-classic, Zombieland. There are many questions to be asked, since there is a completely new target audience, and other factors that impact the movie in 2019.
In 2009, the zombie craze had not really started yet, and it was just being introduced to pop culture. Making a sequel 10 years later is still a gamble, considering the original was loved by most and got spectacular reviews from critics all around. But is it still worth seeing?
First things first, this is a comedy. No one is here to watch it for dramatic, Oscar winning performances. Viewers are here to see the notably household name cast kill zombies in over the top ways, delivering one liners as they do so. If that was their only goal, they succeeded.
Director Ruben Fleishcer knows his strengths and when to execute them in the movie. The main idea was to make a fun movie that is enjoyable for everyone. He kept everything short and sweet and knew when to stop before things got a little too far.
Overall, it’s an enjoyable movie that you could see with a couple of your friends when you have nothing else to do. It isn’t ‘drop everything and go see it right now’, but it won’t disappoint if you know what you are walking into. It’s no Joker or the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, but it gets a few laughs out of you.
I would give Zombieland 2: Double Tap 3.5/5 stars. It’s not quite as good as the original, but it was worth the watch.
